Introduction:
History of the Middle East's pet animals states that it was not possible before 1960's to raise
pet animals
except for horses which were kept by the elite only as a personal pride and as a demonstration of historical
chivalry and horsemanship.Cats were mainly stay animals and only kept to fight mice and rodents.
Dogs were only kept to guard houses and farms and were never allowed as pets.
Qassim Jafar was, at that time, the first aquarist in the M.E. as he came back to Jordan from
Egypt
after finishing a fancy tropical fish study bringing along three big aquariums which were then purchased
by Amman's community elites headed by the late King Hussein of Jordan.
The aesthetic values promulgated by Qassim Jafar were reflected in the community which
encouraged
him to build nine 150 liters aquariums to be exhibited in his show rooms which attracted crowds to enjoy
this new hobby.
